"He is Risen" Easter Art Project

One of the symbols for Resurrection is the sunrise, and the liturgical colour for the season is yellow. Using a variety of materials found around home, we're asking our church to create their own unique picture of a sunrise that include the words "He is Risen" to post in your window on Easter morning.

Here's some ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

Support/Background: pre-stretched canvas, wood panel or watercolour paper, Bristol board, heavy cardboard, construction paper, even an old door from a cupboard or closet

Collage: use clippings from old magazines, yellow pages, flyers, newspapers, paper napkins, stickers or anything interesting from your recycling bin! Fasten with glue or Mod Podge if you have it. Other items work too--literally anything that's not too heavy to glue on: silk flowers, ribbon, twigs, pine cones, feathers, fabric, etc.

Mark making: Felt tip markers and crayons are obvious choices and great for lettering. Brushes and paint, if you don't have any, can be ordered from Michael's. (Remember, with only red, yellow and blue you can make a lot of other colours.) Don't have brushes and don't want to buy them? Use your fingers, an old spatula, Q-tips, a stick--anything that moves the paint.
